DURHAM, N.C. - Princeton senior Jacqueline Leahy and junior Erin McGarry claimed individual titles at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional fencing meet on Saturday at Duke University, leaving both likely to earn bids to the NCAA Championships in two weeks in Houston, Texas. Senior Kira Hohensee also put herself in position to get a national bid by finishing seventh in the epee.
Leahy's foil title would earn her a fourth straight appearance at the national meet. As a freshman, Leahy finished seventh nationally, following it up with a fourth-place finish as a sophomore and a third-place finish last year. Also vying for a national bid on Saturday in the foil was junior Sara Jew-Lim, who finished 10th.
With her epee title, McGarry would earn a third straight national bid. She improved from a 14th-place national finish in her rookie season to a sixth-place finish last year. Hohensee has competed twice before at the national meet, finishing 15th as a freshman and 24th as a junior. Freshman Jasjit Bhinder made her first NCAA Regional appearance on Saturday, finishing 13th.
The NCAA Championships, hosted by Rice University, take place Mar. 16-17.
