Princeton Golf Teams Defend Ivy Titles This Weekend
April 20, 2006 | Women's Golf
PRINCETON, N.J. - Princeton's men's and women's golf teams travel to the northwestern corner of New Jersey this weekend, each aiming for its third consecutive Ivy League title. The two programs have combined to win 22 of the 36 Ivy League titles competed for, the men since 1975 and the women since 1997.
Both the men's and women's championships will be held at the same course for the first time as Crystal Springs Resort in Vernon, N.J., reserves the Ballyowen Golf Club for the m en and Great Gorge Country Club for the women.
The men's team has won 18 team titles since the Ivy League began hosting its own championship in 1975. Yale has the second-most at eight titles, and the Tigers have won five of the last six team championships.
On the women's side, Princeton and Yale have won all nine events with the Bulldogs edging the Orange and Black 5-4 in the all-time standings. Princeton, however, has won four of the last seven and two in a row.
Three All-Ivy preformers from a year ago return to the 2006 event as Sharla Cloutier, Jason Gerken and John Sawin spearhead Princeton's efforts to win dual team titles for the third straight year.
The tournament will feature three rounds over two days, Saturday and Sunday.
