In a 16-game season and a sport where only 16 teams make the NCAA touranment, every game matters. But for the Princeton women's lacrosse team, a visit to Brown Saturday afternoon (1 p.m.) is the only game that really matters.
Win, and the Tigers earn the Ivy League's automatic NCAA tournament bid. Win, and the Tigers earn at least a share of their ninth Ivy championship and fifth in the last six years.
Cornell can earn its first-ever league title by defeating Harvard Friday night. In that situation, a Princeton win over Brown gives the Tigers the automatic bid thanks to their earlier win over the Big Red. A three-way tie between Princeton, Cornell and Dartmouth is still possible if Brown beats the Tigers and Harvard defeats Cornell.
In any case, history is certainly on Princeton's side on Saturday. The Tigers have won 15 straight games against Brown and 24 of the 27 meetings all-time. The Bears are just 1-5 in the league entering Saturday, but they nearly defeated Dartmouth April 2 before falling 11-9 in overtime.
Princeton rebounded from a loss to Dartmouth with a 14-9 victory over Delaware at Class of 1952 Stadium on Tuesday. Katie Lewis-Lamonica had five goals and Kathleen Miller had three goals and four assists as the Tigers defeated the Blue Hens for the 17th straight year. The Bears, 4-10 overall, lost at Harvard 12-7 on Wednesday. Brown hasn't defeated Princeton since the 1991 season.
