GREENSBORO, N.C. - Senior Josh Probst finished in seventh place in the javelin throw at Saturday's NCAA East Regional at Irwin Belk Track, giving himself a potential shot at next month's NCAA championship.
Probst's best throw, his fourth of six, was an even 68 meters (223 feet, one inch), placing him seventh in the field. The top five automatically qualify for the June 7-10 nationals in Sacramento, but the next seven are placed in a national pool from which several athletes will be taken.
North Carolina's Justin Ryncavage won the javelin event with a toss of 73.4 meters (240 feet, 10 inches), accomplished on his first toss of six on the day.
