Amy Bond Hired as Princeton Women's Golf Head Coach
July 03, 2006 | Women's Golf
PRINCETON, N.J. - Amy Bond, a five-year assistant at Florida State University, has been named the head coach of the Princeton women's golf team, Director of Athletics Gary Walters announced Friday. Bond succeeds Eric Stein, the program's only coach since its inception as a varsity program for the 1991-92 season.
Bond takes over a program that has won four Ivy League championships in the last eight years and two in the last three. All seven players from the 2006 team return, including All-Ivy honorees Sharla Cloutier (2004-05), Alexis Etow (2004) and Susannah Aboff (2006).
"The athletic department is very successful as a whole and it's a place I thought I could make an impact and win," Bond said. "It's the most beautiful campus I've ever been on and it being among the top universities in the country by academics is a huge bonus. The tradition at Princeton was a big pull for me and one of the major reasons I pursued the position."
During her tenure in Tallahassee, Bond helped guide the Seminoles to NCAA Championship appearances in 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2006. The team saw two players earn All-America honors in that span including freshman Caroline Westrup this past season. She was the school's first rookie to earn first-team All-America plaudits.
As a player from 1997-99, Bond was named the team's most valuable player all three seasons while playing in three NCAA Regionals and placing 30th nationally in 1999. She was an All-ACC pick in 1998.
Following her collegiate career, Bond played on the SBC Futures Tour from 1999-2003.
An Ocala, Fla., native, Bond earned a bachelor's degree in sport management from Florida State in 1997 before achieving a master's degree in sport administration from the university two years later.
