Coppola, Lind Head Field Of Seven Tiger Rowers Competing At 2006 World Rowing Championships
August 11, 2006 | Heavyweight Rowing, Women's Rowing - Open, Men's Rowing - Lightweight
Both Steve Coppola and Caroline Lind spent their springs leading the Princeton rowing program to Eastern titles. Now they will look to lead the United States to world titles. Coppola and Lind lead a field of seven present and former Tiger rowers who will travel to Eton, England, to compete at the 2006 World Rowing Championships, which will be held from Aug. 20-27.
Coppola led the Princeton men's heavyweights to wins at the Head of the Charles and Eastern Sprints, and he was also a member of the world championship-winning U.S. boat at last year's Championships in Gifu, Japan. He will compete for the M8+. Lind, who also brought international experience into a magical 2006 season, led Princeton to an undefeated season and wins at Eastern Sprints and the NCAA championship. Lind will be part of the U.S. W8+.
One of Lind's teammates this year, Andreanne Morin, will be a competitor at the World Rowing Championships. Morin, another member of the historic Class of 2006, will row for the Canadian W8+.
The four other Princeton rowers competing will be Lia Pernell '03 (U.S. W4x), Simon Carcagno '98 (U.S. LM4-), Jesse Karmazin '07 (U.S. Adaptive 4+) and Jamie Faris '04 (Can. M8+).
It has been an exciting summer for Princeton rowers on international waters. Six Tigers competed at the Under-23 World Rowing Championships: Devan Darby (U.S. women's 8+), Gevvie Stone (U.S. women's 8+), Katrina Weschelburger (Canadian women's 4-), Will England (U.S. men's 8+), Alex Hearne (U.S. men's 8+) and Greg McKallagat (U.S. men's lightweight 4-). Darby and Stone, two more members of the historic Princeton 2006 national championship squad, led the U.S. to victory and a gold medal.
Also, the men's heavyweights went to Henley and claimed its second Royal Henley Regatta in four years.
