PRINCETON – A mix off 22 league games and seven non-conference games make up the 2006-07 Princeton men's hockey schedule that was announced recently by Princeton head coach Guy Gadowsky. Princeton will appear on the home ice of Baker Rink 17 times next season, beginning with an exhibition contest on Oct. 20 against McGill University. Princeton kicks off the regular season a week later against Bentley.
After an intersquad scrimmage the third week of October, Princeton's will open the season with an exhibition game against McGill on Oct. 20. Seven days later, the 104th season of Princeton hockey will begin when Princeton faces off against Bentley in a neutral site game at the Richard Codey Arena at South Mountain in West Orange, N.J. The arena, which is the practice facility for the NHL's New Jersey Devils, has hosted AHL preseason games in recent years. Princeton will complete its two-game series with Bentley, a team it beat 4-2 two seasons ago in the only meeting of the two, the following night at Baker Rink.
The Tigers jump into league play for the entire month of November. The month begins with games at Rensselaer and Union and continues with games at St. Lawrence and Clarkson. The Clarkson game on Nov. 12 will be played at 4:30 p.m. Princeton plays its first NCAA Tournament team from a season ago the following weekend when Cornell visits Baker Rink on Nov. 17. Colgate comes to town the following day, before Princeton closes out the month at Dartmouth and Harvard.
With the exception of the neutral site game in Northern New Jersey, Princeton's only non-conference road games will come on the first two nights of December when the Tigers travel to Alabama-Huntsville, after hosting the Chargers at Baker Rink in each of the past two seasons. Princeton then hosts Union and Rensselaer on Dec. 8 and 9 to close out the first part of the season.
Princeton resumes action on Dec. 29 and 30 at home with non-conference games against Nebraska-Omaha and Minnesota State. Nebraska-Omaha was an NCAA tournament team last season and makes it first trip to Princeton. The Tigers went to Omaha in the 1997-98 season. Princeton and Minnesota State have never met before.
The Tigers continue the intersession stretch with an exhibition game against U.S. National Under-18 Team on Jan. 5 and host travel-partner Quinnipiac a night later. Princeton makes the trip to Quinnipiac three days later for a game on Jan. 9. The intersession schedule ends with home games in mid-January with Yale and Brown before the Tigers take 16 days off during finals.
Princeton comes back from finals for its final non-league game of the season on Monday, Jan. 29 against Robert Morris. After that the season ends with four-straight league weekends heading into the playoffs. Princeton visits Brown and Yale, hosts Harvard and Dartmouth, visits Colgate and Cornell, then hosts Clarkson and St. Lawrence the final weekend of the season. The Saturday game against St. Lawrence will feature a 3:30 p.m. start time.
