Unbeaten Men's Soccer Visits 15th-Ranked Fairleigh Dickinson Tuesday Afternoon
September 11, 2006 | Men's Soccer
The tests keep on coming for the unbeaten Princeton men's soccer team, which travels to 15th-ranked Fairleigh Dickinson Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. for the first of six consecutive games away from Lourie-Love Field.
Princeton (2-0-1) is off to its best start since the 2001 season, while the Knights (2-1-2) were the No. 1-ranked team in the North Atlantic Region last week in addition to their No. 15 ranking nationally.
The Tigers defeated American 1-0 Friday night at Lourie-Love Field, getting an early second-half goal from junior Dan Cummins and a terrific performance in goal from senior Justin Oppenheimer, who made several diving stops along the way to earn his second shutout of the season.
Fairleigh Dickinson battled Hofstra to a 0-0 tie Saturday afternoon. The Knights, like Princeton, have been stingy defensively in the early season, allowing just two goals in their first five games.
FDU defeated the Tigers 2-1 last season in a game played at Mercer County Community College as part of the Princeton Invitational. The teams are meeting for the 13th consecutive season, with Princeton holding an 8-2-2 advantage in the past 12 years.
Princeton will spend much of next weekend at Penn's Rhodes Field, playing Duquesne and Saint Joseph's as part of the Penn Invitational. The Tigers and Dukes meet Friday at 5 p.m., while Princeton and the Hawks play at noon Sunday.
