Josh Walburn Named Ivy League Men's Soccer Rookie Of The Week
October 01, 2007 | Men's Soccer
Josh Walburn, who scored his first career goal Sunday and helped the Princeton men's soccer team to two shutouts this past week, has been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week for games ending Sept. 30.
Walburn's goal in the 63rd minute against Fairleigh Dickinson was the game winner in a 2-0 Princeton victory at Powers Field. After a FDU foul, he ripped a low shot on a free kick from well outside the box into the lower left-hand corner of the net to give Princeton the lead.
A defender who has started each of the last five games for the Tigers, the freshman from St. Louis, Mo., was also a key part of shutouts against both FDU and in a scoreless tie against Monmouth three days earlier. Princeton outshot Monmouth 18-8 and limited FDU to just two first-half shots on Sunday.
Walburn and the Tigers host Monmouth at Powers Field Wednesday night (7:30 p.m.) before beginning their Ivy League season Saturday night at undefeated Brown.
