October 01, 2007 | Women's Golf
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- The Princeton women's golf team finished atop a 14-team field on Penn State University's Blue Course at the three-round Nittany Lion Invitational Monday. Susannah Aboff, the two-round leader, finished runner-up by a shot.
Aboff carded a 71 and 74 Sunday to hold a three-shot lead over Western Michigan's Laura Bavaird. Monday, Aboff shot a 79 to finish at +8 and Bavaird a 75 to make up the three-shot deficit and allow the Bronco golfer to win the tournament by a stroke.
Princeton grew its lead over Maryland by two shots to win the tournament by 15 strokes over the Terrapins. Host Penn State was third, followed by Western Michigan, James Madison, Xavier, Ball State, William and Mary, Boston College, Ohio, Bowling Green, Bucknell, Rutgers and Monmouth. The team title was Princeton's second straight on the fall season after the Tigers won their home meet last month.
Two shots behind Aboff was Princeton's Marlowe Boukis, who finished in third place at +10 (79-75-72) as all five Tigers were within the top 19 players. Rookie Kate Scarpetta finished in a 12th-place tie at +17 (75-76-82), while Annika Welander tied for 15th at +18 (79-77-78). Michelle Grilli completed the Princeton contingent at +19 in 19th place (77-81-77).
The Tigers will have two more fall tournaments with the next one Oct. 8-9 at the Johnie Imes Invitational hosted by the University of Missouri.
