This Week's Storylines
Drop the Puck
The puck drops on the 2007-08 Princeton men's hockey season this weekend with the Shootout at Ingalls. Princeton face Yale in the regular-season opener on Friday night, then faces the Ontario Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon in an exhibition game.
The First Shootout
This year's Shootout at Ingalls is the first of a three-year agreement between Princeton, Brown and Yale to play this showcase. The tournament moves to Brown to open the 2008-09 season and Princeton to open the 2009-10 season.
CV
Tonight's game kicks off the 105th season of varsity hockey at Princeton. The first game was played on Nov. 30, 1900 against the Drisler School. Princeton did not compete for two seasons during World War II.
It's About Time
Ivy League rules mandate that men's hockey teams can begin practicing on Oct. 12 and can play regular season games the weekend of Oct. 26. Friday's game will take place exactly three weeks after the first regular season games of the season, which were played on Oct. 7, five days before Princeton's first official practice.
Moving Forward
Princeton has increased its win total in each of the past four seasons. The Tigers went from three to five to eight to 10 to 15 last season. Last year the Tigers also finished in the top half of the ECAC standings and hosted a first-round playoff series for the first time since 1999.
15 Wins in 2006-07
Princeton's 15 wins a season ago gave the Tigers their highest win total since the 1998-99 season when Princeton won 20 games. Princeton's 15-win total tied for the fifth-highest win total in program history. Princeton won 20 games in 1998-99 and 18 games in 1994-95, 1996-97 and 1997-98. Princeton also won 15 games in 1928-29 and 1932-33.
