PRINCETON -- For the first time in the fall season, both Princeton golf teams will be on the road the same weekend. The Tiger men will head to Yale's MacDonald Cup while the women will play in the University of Missouri's Johnie Imes Invitational.
The women's team has won both of its meets so far, including the Princeton Invitaitonal and the Nittany Lion Invitational at Penn State. Susannah Aboff has been the top Tiger in both, winning the Princeton Invite and holding a two-round lead at Penn State's meet before finishing second.
The Imes field will feature two Big Ten teams in host Missouri and Indiana, plus Bradley, Drury, Eastern Illinois, Memphis, Missouri-Kansas City, Northern Iowa and Wichita State. The Club at Old Hawthorne course measures 6,204 yards with a par of 72 and will be the tournament's home for 54 holes. The teams will play two rounds Monday and one Tuesday. Princeton will be paired with Bradley and Wichita State for the 8 a.m. shotgun start.
The MacDonald Cup features a much larger field of 25 teams for the Tiger men's squad. Other Ivy schools in the field include Brown, Columbia, Dartmouth, Harvard and host Yale. Rutgers and Seton Hall will join Princeton in representing the Garden State as the Tigers will tee off alongside Dartmouth and Drake for the two-round event starting at 7:40 Saturday morning. Yale's 6,749-yard home course is a par-70.
After this weekend, the women's team will have one more fall tournament, the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate at Kiawah Island, S.C., Oct. 29-30. The men's team will have two more fall meets, first at the Big Five Classic outside Philadelphia Oct. 13-14 and the Old Dominion Seascape Invitational in North Carolina Oct. 29-30.
