Two Second-Half Goals Help Yale Deal Men's Soccer 2-0 Defeat
November 11, 2007 | Men's Soccer
PRINCETON -- Yale scored twice in the game's final 13 minutes to break open a scoreless match and secure a 2-0 win over the Princeton men's soccer team Sunday afternoon on Powers Field at Princeton Stadium.
Princeton outshot Yale 17-12 and forced each of the two Bulldog goalkeepers, Erik Geiger in the first half and Dwayne Whylly in the second half, to make four saves. The Tigers also led Yale in corner kicks 8-1 with all eight coming in the second half, but weren't able to convert. Princeton's Joe Walter made three saves in net.
Yale's Brad Rose jammed in a rebound off a free kick attempt in the 78th minute for the game's first goal, and Rose provided the helper on a goal by Kevin Pope, who had the assist on the first goal, with 15 seconds left when Pope snuck a shot inside the left post.
Though the Tigers led Yale 8-3 in shots on net, one teasing near-miss was a crossbar by Kyle McHugh, one of eight seniors suiting up for their last home games Sunday, less than two minutes into the second half. McHugh joined fellow captain Matt Kontos and Dan Cummins, Mike Jester, David Metcalf, Robbie Morgenroth, Victor Noskov and Ted Wolfson in the Princeton soccer class of 2007-08.
The Tigers will conclude their season with a trip to Dartmouth next Saturday for a 4:30 p.m. start.
