Cam Ritchie Named ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week
November 26, 2007 | Men's Ice Hockey
Princeton freshman defenseman Cam Ritchie was named the ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week on Monday following his two-goal performance on Saturday in a win at Quinnipiac.
Ritchie scored his first two collegiate goals in Saturday's win. The first came 33 seconds into the third period to snap a 1-1 tie and give Princeton a lead it would not relinquish in the 4-2 win. Ritchie sealed the win just over 19 minutes later when he shot into an empty net for his second goal of the game.
Ritchie was also +2 in the game and part of Princeton's strong defensive effort that held Quinnipiac to just one shot on goal in the second period and seven shots on goal over the final 40 minutes of play. Three other Princeton defensemen also contributed offensively in the game as freshman Matt Godlewski scored his first collegiate goal and freshman Taylor Fedun and senior Mike Moore added assists.
His two goals marked the first two-goal performance by a Princeton defenseman in nearly 10 seasons. The last Tiger blueliner to score twice in a game was Steve Shirreffs on Feb. 27, 1998 in a 4-4 tie with Vermont.
Ritchie becomes Princeton's third weekly award winner of the 2007-08 season, joining Oct. 29 Player of the Week Cam MacIntyre and Nov. 5 Goaltender of the Week Zane Kalemba.
Princeton returns to action this weekend at home when the Tigers welcome Rensselaer and Union to Baker Rink for a pair of league contests.
