Men's Soccer Hosts Yale On Senior Day

Senior Day at Powers Field (4 p.m. Sunday vs. Yale) sees the Princeton men's soccer team looking to extend its winning streak to three games and its unbeaten streak at home to six games before the Tigers make the move to the new Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium for the 2008 season.

Princeton (5-8-2, 3-2 Ivy) still has a chance to finish in second place in the Ivy League standings, and a win Sunday against the Bulldogs (3-7-5, 1-2-2 Ivy) would give the Tigers a four-win Ivy season for the first time since 2001.

Eight seniors will play their final home game Sunday, led by team captains Matt Kontos and Kyle McHugh. Kontos has been a starter on defense for all four seasons in a Princeton uniform, while McHugh has a team-high seven goals thisseason, among the league leaders.

Forward Dan Cummins, midfielders Mike Jester, Ted Wolfson and Victor Noskov and defenders David Metcalf and Robbie Morgenroth complete a senior class
that has helped the Tigers recover from an 0-6 start to the season by winning five times and earning two ties in their last nine games.

The Tigers won at Penn 1-0 last Saturday when McHugh scored just 5:44 into the game and goalie Joe Walter made several big saves in the final minutes. Princeton has now earned shutout wins in each of its last two games and shutouts in five of its last nine games.

Yale was another victim of fourth-ranked Brown last Saturday, falling to the Bears by a 2-0 score in New Haven. Three of the Bulldogs' five Ivy games so far have gone to overtime?Yale lost in overtime at Penn but earned ties at home against Cornell and a Dartmouth team that was unbeaten in five Ivy games entering this weekend.

Dartmouth and Brown play Saturday in Providence. If the Bears win that game, they clinch the outright Ivy championship and the league's automatic NCAA tournament berth. If the game ends in a tie or a Dartmouth victory, the league championship will still be up for grabs heading into the final weekend of the season.

The Tigers will close the season next Saturday at Dartmouth.
