February 23, 2007 | Women's Tennis
The Princeton women's tennis team won its fourth straight match Thursday night with a 7-0 victory against St. John's at Jadwin Gym. The Tigers clinched the match when Melissa Saiontz won in straight sets at No. 1 singles.
The Tigers (4-2) split doubles matches at Nos. 2 and 3 before Saiontz and Ivana King won a tough 8-6 decision at No. 1 to give Princeton the doubles point.
Princeton then lost a total of 10 games in singles wins at Nos. 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6. At No. 3, Darcy Robertson was extended to a third set but won a 10-6 proset to give the Tigers a win in each singles match.
Blakely Ashley lost just one game in a win at No. 5 singles for Princeton.
No. 33 Maryland visits the "E" level of Jadwin Gym Sunday morning for an 11 a.m. match. The Terrapins are the highest-ranked opponent that will come to Princeton this year. Free donuts, bagels and coffee will be available for what is expected to be a big crowd for the match.
