February 24, 2007 | Men's Ice Hockey
The Princeton men's hockey team completed the regular season and climbed to .500 with a 4-1 win over No. 14 St. Lawrence on Saturday afternoon at Hobey Baker Rink. Freshman Cam MacIntyre broke a 1-1 deadlock early in the third as Princeton completed a weekend sweep of the league's top two teams, Clarkson and St. Lawrence.
The win moved Princeton to 13-13-3 overall and 10-10-2 in the ECAC Hockey League standings and clinched a sixth-place finish for the Tigers, who will begin the post season next Friday night at home against the Brown Bears. Princeton defeated Brown 3-2 in overtime during their lone meeting this season at Baker Rink. The two teams tied 1-1 in their showdown later this season in Providence.
St. Lawrence scored the game's first goal on the game's first shot in the game's first minute when Charlie Giffin redirected a point shot by Derek Keller into the Tiger goal. That was St. Lawrence's only goal of the game and Princeton evened the score eight minutes later when junior Mike Moore scored on the power play for the second-straight night. Moore's point shot through traffic was assist by seniors Grant Goeckner-Zoeller and Kevin Westgarth.
Neither team scored in the second period before MacIntyre's third game winner of the season put Princeton ahead 3:58 into the third. Westgarth gained possession behind the net and fed MacIntyre who one-timed the puck through the legs of St. Lawrence netminder Alex Petizian to give Princeton the lead.
Princeton added two insurance goals in the game's final minute. Freshman Mark Magnowski scored off a rush at 19:01 from senior Daryl Marcoux and sophomore Brett Wilson, and Wilson finished the game by scoring into the empty net with six seconds left.
Princeton senior goaltender B.J. Sklapsky made 20 saves for the win, while Petizian made 28 for St. Lawrence.
