Tigers Fall to Harvard 4-2

PRINCETON -- Harvard scored three times in the second period to rally from a 2-1 deficit and defeat the Princeton men's hockey team 4-2 on Friday night at Hobey Baker Rink. Harvard was paced by a three-point performance from Doug Rogers.
Harvard opened the scoring 7:24 into the game when Ryan Maki slid the rebound of a Mike Taylor shot under Princeton freshman goaltender Zane Kalemba. Rogers also assisted on the goal, which gave Harvard a lead.
The Tigers answered back two minutes later with its first of two power-play goals in the period. Freshman Cam MacIntyre spring senior Darroll Powe into the Harvard zone on an odd-man rush and Powe got off a back-hander that was stopped by Harvard netminder Kyle Richter. The rebound however bounced to the far side where freshman Mark Magnowski found it and shot it into the open net for his seventh goal of the season.
The Tigers took the lead less than three minutes later with its second power-play goal of the period. This time, senior Grant Goeckner-Zoeller gave the puck to freshman Jody Pederson at the point, who blasted a shot that was redirected in the slot by sophomore Brandan Kushniruk past Richter for his fifth score of the year.
Princeton took the 2-1 lead into the second period, but Harvard evened the score in the first minute of the second period when Rogers backhanded a wrap-around shot into the net from Taylor and Maki.
Harvard went ahead 3-2 midway through the period when Paul Dufault scored on a rebound from the right side. The initial shot came from the left side from Chad Morin. The Crimson added an insurance goal with 12 seconds left in the period on the power play. Rogers got the puck at the back door and had an open net to shoot into.
Neither team scored in the third period as Richter made nine saves in the stanza and sophomore Thomas Sychterz made eight in the Princeton net.
Princeton falls to 9-12-3 with the loss and is now 6-9-2 in the ECAC Hockey League. The Tigers are back in action tomorrow night when Dartmouth visits Baker Rink at 7 p.m.
