No. 19 Pepperdine Tops No. 64 Tigers in Women's Tennis, 6-1
March 21, 2007 | Women's Tennis
After pulling out a tough doubles point with a win at No. 2, 19th-ranked Pepperdine won four singles matches in straight sets on the way to a 6-1 victory over No. 64 Princeton in a women's tennis match played Wednesday at the Ralph-Straus Tennis Center.
Princeton (7-4) forced the doubles point to the deciding match when Laura Trimble and Kristen Scott won at No. 3, but Pepperdine's Eva Dickes and Anete Bandere outlasted Melissa Saiontz and Darcy Robertson at No. 2 doubles to give the Waves the point. Pepperdine (11-7) then got straight-set wins at Nos. 6, 3, and 5 singles to clinch the match.
The Tigers' singles win came at No. 2, where Ivana King defeated Katia Sabate 6-4 and 7-6. Saiontz extended her match against Sylvia Kosakowski to a third set at No. 1 singles, but Kosakowski won a 12-10 proset to take the match.
There were tiebreaks in each of the first four singles matches. Saiontz and Kosakowski had two tiebreakers in their match.
Princeton will play at No. 50 Long Beach State Thursday afternoon to conclude its Spring Break trip to California.
