Sklapsky Named ECACHL Goaltender of the Week
March 05, 2007 | Men's Ice Hockey
Princeton senior goaltender B.J. Sklapsky was named the ECAC Hockey League's Goaltender of the Week on Monday thanks to his goaltending performance in Princeton's playoff series win over Brown last weekend. Sklapsky stopped 53 of the 57 shots he faced during the series.
The award is Sklapsky's first Goalie of the Week award of the season and its third weekly award. Senior Kevin Westgarth and freshman Mark Magnowski were the Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, last week.
Sklapsky made 21 saves in Saturday's overtime win over Brown. He allowed one goal in the game and made several key saves late in the third period to preserve the tie and allow his team to win in overtime.
A night later, Brown outshot Princeton, but Sklapsky stepped up be making 32 save for the 4-3 win. Sklapsky and the Tiger penalty kill held Brown to one power-play goal in nine chances as the Tigers won their first playoff series since 1999.
Sklapsky improved to 7-3-1 on the season with the wins and lowered his goals against to 2.56 and upped his save percentage to .911 this season.
Sophomore Brett Wilson, who had four points in the series and has a current six-game point-scoring streak was named to the league's honor roll. Wilson scored in the first and second game of the series, including the game winner in overtime on Saturday night. On Sunday he set up two goals, including the game-tying goal as Princeton rallied from behind for a 4-3 win.
Princeton returns to action on Friday night when the best-of-three quarterfinal round of the league playoffs begins at Dartmouth.
