Tennis Teams Move Up in National Rankings
March 07, 2007 | Men's Tennis, Women's Tennis
The Princeton women's tennis team is now ranked 50th and the men's team is now ranked No. 63 in the most recent FILA Collegiate Tennis Rankings released this week.
The women's ranking is the highest for the team since the 2000 season. Princeton, which defeated then-No. 33 Maryland 11 days ago, was ranked 64th in last week's poll before moving up this week.
The No. 63 ranking for the men is the team's best since the Tigers were ranked No. 56 early in the 2001 season. Princeton was ranked No. 75 last week before defeating St. John's on Friday and earning an impressive 6-1 victory over Loyola Marymount at Jadwin Gym Monday.
On the women's side, freshman Melissa Saiontz moved up the No. 78 ranking in singles individually. Saiontz is 5-1 in singles this spring, with the only loss coming to the No. 1 player in the country, Miami's Audra Cohen.
The Tiger men will host Stony Brook Saturday afternoon before heading to California for matches over Spring Break. The Princeton women host Rutgers today at Jadwin Gym before traveling to the Golden State for four matches, three of which will come against ranked teams.
