The Princeton men's tennis team lost just one set in singles and swept the doubles matches on the way to an impressive 7-0 victory over Dartmouth in an Ivy League match played Friday afternoon in Jadwin Gym.
The 73rd-ranked Tigers (10-5, 3-1) won their third straight match by taking five singles matches in straight sets after earning the doubles point with big wins at the Nos. 2 and 3 spots.
"Overall it was our best performance of the year top to bottom," said Princeton head coach Glenn Michibata. "Everybody who went out there had a lot of energy and played very well."
The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the match when Peter Capkovic and Alex Vuckovic polished off Ari Gayer and Justin Tzou at No. 2 doubles by an 8-4 score. Princeton then clinched the match with singles wins from Alex Krueger-Wyman, Charlie Brosens and Vuckovic at the bottom of the lineup.
Brosens lost just four games in his straight-set win over Gayer at No. 6 singles.
Princeton improved to 21-9 this season at the top two singles spots with identical 6-4, 6-4 wins from Peter Capkovic at No. 1 and Sratha Saengsuwarn at No. 2. Saengsuwarn improved to 9-3 at the No. 2 spot this spring.
George Carpeni finished the Princeton shutout win when he won the second set in a tiebreak and then won a 10-5 tiebreak to win the No. 3 singles match against Jeff Schechtman.
The Tigers host No. 74 Harvard Saturday afternoon at the Lenz Tennis Center (weather permitting) or at Jadwin Gym. The Crimson were 2-0 in league play heading into a Friday match at 3-0 Penn in Philadelphia.
