Women's Golf Places Second at Ivy League Championships
April 22, 2007 | Women's Golf
TRENTON, N.J. -- Columbia didn't relinquish its two-round lead as the Princeton women's golf team remained in second place through the 54-hole finish Sunday at the Ivy League Championships hosted by Trenton Country Club.
The Lions finished 10 shots ahead of Princeton and another 10 ahead of third-place Yale, previously the only two teams to have won the Ivy League Championship, in its 11th edition in 2007. Harvard, Penn, Dartmouth and Brown rounded out the team standings.
Princeton moved up one spot from its 2006 finish, when it took third. While winning four Ivy titles, the Tigers have taken first or second in all 11 Ivy tournaments other than last year.
Individually, a pair of Columbia golfers took the top two slots. Sara Ovadia won at +10, four shots ahead of teammate Stevy Loy and five ahead of Princeton's Susannah Aboff, who fired a 75, 76 and 80 to finish at +15 in third place.
The whole of Princeton's scoring foursome was in the top nine overall, but Columbia bettered that with three in the top five. Princeton's Sharla Cloutier took sixth at +20 with a 79, 78 and 79, while Annika Welander tied for seventh at +22 with a 79, 81 and 78. Michelle Grilli took ninth at +23 with a 76, 80 and 83. Marlowe Boukis completed Princeton's delegation, finishing 20th at +33 with an 81, 86 and 82.
Cloutier's, Aboff's and Welander's finish qualified them for All-Ivy honors. It is the first honor for junior Welander, the second for sophomore Aboff and the third for senior Cloutier.
