April 07, 2007 | Women's Tennis
Yale won three singles matches in straight sets after coming from behind at No. 1 doubles to take the doubles point on the way to a 5-2 victory over Princeton in an Ivy League women's tennis match played Saturday afternoon at Jadwin Gym.
Princeton's Ivana King improved to 10-1 at the No. 2 singles spot this spring with a straight-set win over Sarah Lederhandler to give the Tigers (9-7, 1-2 Ivy) their first singles win, but Yale's Lilian Nguyen defeated Princeton's Kelly Stewart at No. 6 singles moments later to clinch the match for Yale (7-8, 2-1 Ivy).
The Tigers also got a singles win at No. 1, where Melissa Saiontz split sets with Janet Kim before winning the third set by a 6-3 score. In doubles, Princeton's No. 2 team of Sarah Huah and Darcy Robertson didn't lose a game in a big win over Jessica Rhee and Lederhandler.
Princeton is now a combined 23-9 this season at the Nos. 1 and 2 singles positions.
At No. 4 singles, Princeton's Blakely Ashley won the first set over Yale's Jessica Rhee, but Rhee came from behind to take the second set 6-2 and the third set 7-5 in the final match of the day.
