May 24, 2007 | Softball
PRINCETON, N.J. -- Princeton softball, winners of four of the last six Ivy League titles, has announced the addition of four incoming freshmen for the 2008 season.
Kristin Arguedas, Brittney Scott, Michelle Tolfa and Megan Weidrick are set to join the Tigers in the fall. Princeton graduated three seniors with the Class of 2007, including outfielders Stephanie Steel and Betsy Allaway and pitcher/designated player Calli Jo Varner.
Arguedas, a middle infielder from Seal Beach, Calif., will come to Princeton from St. Joseph High School in Lakewood, Calif., where she also played basketball. Arguedas played for the Orange County Batbusters club team, which won the 2006 ASA national championship. Arguedas was a four-year starter for the St. Joseph varsity program and earned first-team All-Serra League honors during her career.
Scott, an outfielder from Land O' Lakes, Fla., began her high school career at Wesley Chapel High before joining the inaugural softball team at Academy at the Lakes for her final two seasons. Scott, who can hit from both sides of the plate, was a busy athlete as a prep, earning letters in track, weightlifting, volleyball, basketball and cheerleading. Her club team, the Florida Ultimate Gold, earned the state's top ranking in the 18-Gold division. Scott hit .708 as a junior at Academy of the Lakes while stealing 46 bases with 38 runs batted in. As a senior, Scott ranked second in the state in stolen bases while her team played just 18 games.
Tolfa, a right-handed pitcher and outfielder from Newport Beach, Calif., played for Corona del Mar High School as well as the Batbusters and 18 Gold Cal Raiders club teams. She was a two-time Pacific Coast League Most Valuable Pitcher for the Sea Kings at Corona del Mar, earning player of the year honors from her local newspaper three times.
Weidrick, a catcher and third baseman, is a native of Bath, Ohio. She played for Revere High School and the Ohio Ice club team, hitting .355 this summer for her club and .473 in her scholastic league. For Revere, Weidrick was a three-time first-team All-Suburban League player, also claiming first-team all-district and honorable mention all-state honors during her career.
