Seven Princetonians in NHL Camps as Season Nears

With the start of the National Hockey League season less than three weeks away, there are currently seven Princeton alums, four of which graduated in 2007, competing in NHL training camps over the coming weeks.
Seven-year NHL veteran Jeff Halpern '99 will return to the Dallas Stars for his second season after spending the first six years of his career in Washington. Halpern has been joined in the NHL the last two seasons by George Parros '03, who became the first Princetonian to be on a Stanley Cup championship winning team last spring. Parros signed a new contract to remain with Anaheim Ducks.
Kevin Westgarth '07 and David Schneider '02 both have signed two-way contracts with NHL teams and their American Hockey League affiliates. Westgarth signed a three-year contract with the Los Angeles Kings after completed last season and played for their AHL team in Manchester, N.H., late last season. Schneider signed a one-year contract with Tampa Bay in the summer and may also play with their AHL's affiliate in Norfolk, Va.
Three other 2007 graduates will be in NHL camps. Darroll Powe signed a contract with the Philadelphia Phantoms of the AHL and was invited to the Flyers training camp, while Brett Westgarth signed with the IHL's Flint Generals and will attend the Detroit Red Wings training camp. Lastly, Grant Goeckner-Zoeller, who signed with the ECHL's Florida Everblades will attend the Florida Panthers camp.
Seven of the nine graduates of the Princeton men's hockey Class of 2007 have signed pro contracts for the upcoming season. In addition to the one's listed above, Max Cousins and B.J. Sklapsky signed with European teams, Cousins in Germany and Sklapsky in Belgium. Also, Daryl Marcoux signed with the ECHL's Fresno Falcons.
