Tigers Race Past MIT 12-9

PRINCETON -- The 15th-ranked Princeton men's water polo team completed it second weekend of the season with a 12-9 win over MIT on Sunday afternoon at DeNunzio Pool. Senior Zach Beckmann paced the Tigers with four goals in the win.
Princeton, now 6-1 on the season, held a one-goal lead after the first and second quarters, and slowly stretched out its lead before reaching the three-goal margin of victory against MIT, the nation's eighth-ranked Division III team.
Beckmann led all scorers with four goals, while sophomore Mark Zalewski and freshman Jeff Cole each scored three times. Senior co-captain Jason Diggs and freshman Matt Hale both added goals in the win.
Sophomore Scott Hvidt got the start in goal and made five saves in the opening half, while freshman Mike Merlone made six saves in the second half.
Princeton resumes its schedule next Sunday with a pair of league games at home against Johns Hopkins and George Washington.
