Men's Soccer Visits Seton Hall Monday Night
September 17, 2007 | Men's Soccer
Princeton and Seton Hall meet for the 22nd straight season in men's soccer Monday night at Carroll Field in S. Orange, N.J., with each team looking to end a three-game losing skid in 2007.
Game time is 7 p.m. as the Tigers (0-3) look for a second straight win over the Pirates (2-3). Princeton defeated Seton Hall 3-2 in overtime at Lourie-Love Field last season when freshman Max Hare stole the ball from the goalkeeper and scored into an open net in the first minute of the extra period.
Princeton dominated possession, shots and chances against Colgate Friday night at Powers Field at Princeton Stadium but came up on the short end of a 1-0 score when the Raiders' Matt Leach scored with five minutes left in the second half. The Tigers outshot Colgate 15-5, including 9-2 in the first half, and had 11 corner kicks t just two for the Raiders, including all seven corner kicks in the second half.
Seton Hall lost to St. John's 1-0 last Thursday in Queens despite five saves from goalie Paul McHenry. Eliseo Giusfredi has scored four goals for the Pirates, including two on penalty kicks in a 6-2 victory over Penn earlier this month. The Pirates started 2-0 before losses to Syracuse, Hartwick and St. John's.
The Pirates lead the series 10-6-5 since its resumption in the 1986 season. Princeton's win at Lourie-Love Field a year ago ended a four-game winless streak in the series.
The Tigers will travel to California for the first time in program history this weekend, meeting Stanford and Cal at the Stanford Invitional Tournament. Princeton plays the Cardinal Friday night at 10:30 p.m. ET before meeting the Bears Sunday at 3 p.m. ET.
