Our house
Princeton is undefeated in its last three games on campus, closing out Lourie-Love Field with wins over Harvard and Penn and tying Villanova in its first game this season on Powers Field at Princeton Stadium.
Gotta finish
Princeton has scored first in each of its last two games. Both, however, ended up going against the Tigers as Notre Dame and Washington State picked up wins in the Irish's tournament last weekend.
Nice start
Rookie forward/midfielder Alexandra Valerio had Princeton's first goal of the season against Notre Dame Friday.
Team effort
Princeton's trio of goals last weekend came from three players as Alexandra Valerio, Vicki Anagnostopoulos and Jen Om each had their first goals of '07.
That's why it's the second half
The Tigers have made a habit this season of keeping those watching their games in suspense until late. Eight of 11 goals this season have come in the second half or overtime.
Big success vs. the Big Five
Princeton has played four of Philadelphia's "Big Five" teams in its history and will complete the circuit versus Saint Joseph's. In 51 games against the other four schools (Penn, Villanova, Temple and La Salle), Princeton has a record of 37-12-2 including seven straight undefeated contests. No current Tigers have lost to a Big Five team as the last such squads to beat Princeton were Penn and Villanova to end the 2003 season. The Orange and Black has gone 6-0-1 against Philly teams since.
Big Five in Princeton
At home, the Tigers are 22-4-1 all-time against Philadelphia "Big Five" schools and are undefeated in seven straight. The last Philadelphia-based team to win at Old Nassau was Penn in 1998.
Shuffling the order
Fourteen Tigers have earned starts in the five games this season with nine starting every contest so far. The last four games have featured four distinct starting lineups.
All feet on deck
Every non-goalkeeper on the roster, other than Diana Matheson who is busy with the Women's World Cup, has seen action for Princeton this season, including all six non-goalkeeper freshmen.
37 and counting...
Junior defender Taylor Numann, a first-team All-Ivy honoree in 2006, has started every game of her career, a streak 37 contests long.
Nice to meet you
Saint Joseph's is the third of a four-match stretch of first-time opponents for Princeton. Sacred Heart will conclude that run next week.
Chasing history
Princeton head coach Julie Shackford has been the all-time winningest women's soccer coach at the school since 2000, her sixth season on the job. She is just three wins from becoming the all-time winningest soccer coach, men's or women's, at Princeton. With 133 wins, Shackford is three behind Jimmy Reed, who coached the men's squad from 1938-66.
A Tiger in China
Princeton senior midfielder Diana Matheson is in China competing for the Canadian national team at the FIFA Women's World Cup. In its first two games, Canada fell to Norway 2-1 and beat Ghana 4-0, with Matheson starting both games. The Canadians will face Australia Thursday needing to win to advance to the quarterfinals.
On Saint Joseph's
Saint Joseph's is 2-4 with 1-0 wins over Drexel and Robert Morris and losses to Delaware, Penn, Lehigh and Georgetown. Sophomore Megan Bastianelli has been in net for all 540 minutes and, offensively, Saint Joseph's three goals have come from three Hawks players in freshmen Carly Salter and Lauren Sawyer and sophomore Sarah O'Malley. Rookie forward Brooke Price is the only Hawk with ties to the capital region, having attended Notre Dame High School in Lawrenceville.
