Tigers Take Team Title at Fordham Kick-Off As Indoor Season Resumes
January 12, 2008 | Women's Track and Field
Princeton athletes won four events and finished second in seven others as the Tigers took the team title at the Fordham Kick-Off Meet held at the Armory Track & Field Center in New York City Friday. Princeton's 127 points through 18 events were one-half point more than second-place Rutgers.
The Tigers took both the first- and second-place spots in two events Friday. In the 3,000 meters, sophomore Alexa Glencer had the winning time of 10:04.13, while senior Heather Iatauro was second in a time of 10:09 flat. In the pole vault, both junior Jess Kloss and senior Courtney Regan cleared winning heights of 11 feet, 5 3/4 inches to earn the top two spots.
Princeton's other two winners came from underclassmen in the 60-meter hurdles and in the long jump competition. Freshman Bianca Mathabane's impressive time of 8.84 seconds won the hurdles, while sophomore Aundeah Kearney's winning long jump mark was 17 feet, 9 3/4 inches.
Tiger teams also took second place, and the eight team points that came with it, in both relays contested Friday. The mile relay saw Leanne Bellar, Libby Bliss, Katherine Sirico and anchor Agatha Offorjebe finish a close second behind UMES in 3:55.87, while the two-mile relay group of Avigail Kifer, Aparna Swaminathan, Alexe Smith and Amanda Hudson was also second in 9:35.37.
Offorjebe was also second in the 200 meters, her specialty, in a time of 25.31 seconds, while Bliss, a freshman, was second in the 1,000 meters in a time of 3:01.08. Junior Melissa Swigert was also a second-place finisher, running 2:18.98 in the 800 meters.
Bellar earned six points for Princeton with a third-place finish in the 400 meters (58.38), while freshman Lauren Barber triple-jumped 35 feet, 8 1/2 inches for third place in that event and also earned third place in the 60 hurdles behind Mathabane in a time of 9:08 seconds.
Following first-semester exams, the Tiger track teams host the Princeton Relays in two weeks.
