Women's Soccer Takes Lehigh, 1-0
October 15, 2008 | Women's Soccer
PRINCETON -- Kalie Bartholomew's 14th-minute goal and some more stalwart defense lifted the Princeton women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Lehigh Wednesday night on Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium.
Princeton outshot Lehigh 21-4, including 13-0 in the second half, but only Bartholomew's attempt from the right half of the 18-yard box found the back of the net. The win extended Princeton's unbeaten streak to nine games and its shutout streak to 690 minutes. Goalkeeper Alyssa Pont saved all three of Lehigh's shots on net.
"We were a little lethargic, I thought, in the first half," Princeton head coach Julie Shackford said. "We tightened up better in the second half. Give their goalie credit. We created enough chances."
With their midweek contest behind them, the Tigers can turn their focus to an Ivy League first-place showdown with Columbia at 4 p.m. Saturday in Manhattan.
"They're playing really well and scoring a lot of goals," Shackford said of Columbia, which will take an eight-game unbeaten streak into the weekend. "It'll be a big challenge for us."
Princeton, Columbia and Penn are all tied atop the Ivy League at 2-0-1.
