Men's Water Polo Tops GW and Iona

PRINCETON -- The 15th-ranked Princeton men's water polo team picked up a pair of wins Saturday as the Tigers topped George Washington 17-7 in a league game and edged Iona 13-10 in overtime in a non-conference game. Junior Eric Vreeland combined for six goals on the day.
In the opener, the Tigers climbed into a first-place tie with Navy in the Southern Division standings by topping the Colonials 17-7. Princeton and GW were tied 2-2 in the first quarter but the Tigers started a run late in the first quarter and scored six straight goals to move ahead 8-2. The Tigers led 10-4 by the half and continued to pull away though the second half.
Vreeland led all scorers with four goals in the game, while sophomore Jeff Cole, freshman Chris Cottrell and senior Alex Edmunds added two goals each. Seven other Tiger scored single goals in the win.

In the second game, Princeton needed overtime to get past a feisty Iona squad. The Tigers led after a quarter but the game was tight the rest of the way before Princeton pulled it out in overtime. Regulation ended tied at nine before Princeton Princeton scored four times to take a 13-9 lead. Iona got the final score to finish at 13-10.
Senior Brendan Colgan led the way with three goals, while junior Douglas Wigley and Vreeland had two. Six other Tigers scored in the win.
