McHale Advances to Semifinal in ITA East Regional Singles Draw

PHILADELPHIA -- Freshman Lauren McHale, the singles draw's 16th seed at the ITA East Regional at Penn, won her fourth round and quarterfinal matches Monday, defeating the bracket's top seed and No. 9 seed.

McHale rebounded from a first-set blanking against top-seeded senior Kellie Schmitt of Marshall, winning 0-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the round of 16. She then defeated fellow rookie Emily Fraser of Virginia, the ninth seed, 7-5, 6-1.

Tuesday will feature a semifinal match against the No. 3 seed, Ragini Acharya of William & Mary. In the other semifinal, Lauren Cash of Boston College will battle Bianca Aboubakare of Brown. The final match will also be played Tuesday.
