Women's Squash Opens 2008-09 Season With Sweep Of Stanford
November 22, 2008 | Women's Squash
Junior Amanda Siebert picked up another victory at the No. 1 position to highlight a 9-0 season-opening victory for the Princeton women's squash team Saturday. Princeton stays in the Jadwin Squash Courts Sunday when it will take on both Cornell (noon) and Middlebury (4:30 p.m.).
The defending two-time national champion, Princeton dropped only three of 30 games in sweeping the Cardinal. Junior Kaitlin Sennatt played at the No. 2 spot, the highest she has played as a Tiger, and overcame a 9-7 loss in the opener to defeat Samantha Brechner 9-3, 9-3, 9-7 in the final three games. Emery Maine, Aly Brady and Maggie O'Toole swept the 3, 4 and 5 positions to give Princeton a comfortable edge.
Brady and O'Toole are both tri-captains this season, as is senior Joanna Scoon, who swept the first two games 9-0 against Leah Stork at the No. 6 spot. Stork came back to win 10-8 in the third, but Scoon quickly regained the momentum and won the fourth 9-2. Junior Nikki Sequeira picked up a 9-2, 9-2, 9-0 win at No. 7.
The final two spots marked the college debuts of Princeton freshmen Katie Giovinazzo and Clare Kuensell, a pair of highly-touted recruits who picked up wins in the 8 and 9 positions.
