Women's Squash Sweeps Cornell, Middlebury For Perfect Opening Weekend

The Princeton women's squash team started its 2008-09 season off on a strong note with a Sunday sweep of Cornell and Middlebury at the Jadwin Squash Courts. Junior Emery Maine, who posted the winning point in Princeton's national championship win last season, rallied from an 0-2 hole during a win at Cornell and followed it up with a 3-0 win against Middlebury.
Maine's match was the highlight of the first session of matches. After falling 9-7 and 9-6 in the first two games against Liza Stokes, Maine caught fire and dropped only two points to win the final three games 9-0, 9-2 and 9-0. Teammates Amanda Siebert (2), Maggie O'Toole (6) and Nikki Sequeira (8) all won their matches in three games to give Princeton a 4-0 edge heading into the second session of matches.
Senior tri-captain Joanna Scoon made quick work of Anne Ritter at No. 7 to clinch the team win for Princeton. The Tigers also got wins at both ends of the lineup, as junior Neha Kumar won in four games at No. 1 and freshman Katie Giovinazzo won her Ivy League debut at No. 9 in three games.
Princeton had little trouble in the second match, sweeping Middlebury 9-0. No Princeton player allowed more than five points in a single game, and Princeton players won 10 of 27 games without allowing a point. It also marked the first collegiate win for Daphne Rein-Weston, the youngest sister of former Tiger No. 1 players Annie and Claire Rein-Weston.
