Princeton Fencing Readies for First of Two Ivy League Sundays
February 01, 2008 | Men's Fencing, Women's Fencing
PRINCETON -- The Princeton fencing teams will undertake the first of back-to-back Sundays in pursuit of Ivy League titles at Yale's Payne Whitney Gym.
Both teams will start the round-robin with Harvard at 10 a.m. followed by Brown at 11:30. The men will then break while the women tangle with Cornell, which fields a team only on the women's side. Both teams will have Columbia at 3 p.m.
For the first time in the event's two-year history, Princeton will be the host of the following Sunday's competition where both Tiger squads will have just two matches.
Last year, Princeton's men started out with two wins at Penn before falling to the host Quakers. The Tigers were still alive for an Ivy title at that point, but Columbia stopped Princeton the following week before the Orange and Black finished 3-2 with a win over Yale.
On the women's side, the Tigers went 1-2 both Sundays to finish at 2-4. Harvard hosted the second round of duals last year.
In the first U.S. Fencing Coaches Association poll of the 2007-08 season released Jan. 18, both Princeton teams ranked in the top 10 nationally. The Tiger men were eighth while the women ranked 10th.
