Tigers Lose Tough One to De Paul In Women's Tennis, 4-3
February 16, 2008 | Women's Tennis
De Paul's Beatrix Csordas outlasted Princeton's Rebecca Parks thanks to a service break in the third set in the deciding match at No. 4 singles, giving the 71st-ranked De Paul women's tennis team a 4-3 victory over No. 70 Princeton Saturday afternoon in Jadwin Gym.
Princeton (4-2) lost the doubles point and trailed 3-1 in the overall match before coming back to square the match, setting up the deciding three-setter.
First, freshman Sarah Hoffman finished off a three-set victory over De Paul's Katarina Milinkovic, winning 6-2 in the third set at No. 5. Then, the Tigers tied the team match thanks to Melissa Saiontz at No. 1 who, after splitting sets with Dunja Antunovic, won the deciding third set without losing a game.
Just a few minutes later, however, Csordas won a tough service game at 4-4 and then broke Parks to win the match, finishing with a nice backhand passing shot down the line.
Princeton's other singles winner on Saturday was No. 2 player Ivana King, who defeated Gergana Ganeva 6-0 and 6-4 to give the Tigers their first singles win.
King also won in doubles, joining with Parks to defeat Csordas and Ganeva 8-3 at No. 1, but the Blue Demons (6-3) won the doubles point when Antunovic and Kristen Gambrell won in a tiebreak against Saiontz and Taylor Marable at No. 2.
The Tigers host Buffalo at Jadwin Gym Sunday morning.
