Women's Tennis Rolls Over Buffalo, 5-2
February 17, 2008 | Women's Tennis
Melissa Saiontz and Ivana King each came back from first-set deficits to earn singles victories and also contributed to doubles wins as the No. 70-ranked Princeton women's tennis team defeated Buffalo, 5-2, at the Jadwin Gym courts Sunday morning.
King was down 2-5 in the first set to UB's Denise Harijanto at No. 2 singles but came back to win five straight games to take the first set. She then clinched the team match for Princeton (5-2) when she closed out the second set 6-3.
Saiontz was down early to Andreea Novaceanu at No. 1 singles, but then won 11 out of 12 games to close out the Buffalo senior 6-4 and 6-0. Saiontz also won the clinching doubles match for Princeton, joining with Taylor Marable to defeat Diana Toia and Smaranda Stan 8-6 at No. 2 after the team's split the other two doubles matches.
Marable also win in singles, defeating Toia 6-0, 6-4* at No. 5, while fellow freshman Sarah Hoffman defeated Tina Jacob 6-4, 6-3 at No. 6 singles for the Tigers' other singles win.
King and Rebecca Parks won by an 8-4 score at No. 1 doubles for Princeton.
The Tigers travel to North Carolina next weekend, where they will play three nationally-ranked teams in three days, beginning with No. 15 Duke Friday.
