Women's Squash Drops 5-4 Thriller At Trinity To Conclude Regular Season
February 17, 2008 | Women's Squash
The bad news for the Princeton women's squash team is that it lost a second road match of the 2007-08 season. The good news is that the Tigers won't have to leave the friendly confines of Jadwin Gym as they seek a second straight national championship this coming weekend.
Playing a three-round format, Trinity led 2-1 after the first round. Kaitlin Sennatt won a 9-4, 4-9, 10-8, 9-5 match over Emery Holton at the No. 6 position, but Tehani Guruge - a Constable Invitational finalist - and Kim Palterman both pulled out wins at Nos. 3 and 9. The lead grew to 4-2 as Jo-Ann Jee and Robyn Williams pulled out wins at the fifth and eighth spots. Jee rallied from 2-0 down to win 9-3, 9-3, 9-0 in the final games at No. 5, while Williams won in three at No. 8. Princeton sophomore Neha Kumar kept Princeton in the hunt with her most impressive win of the season, a 10-8, 9-7, 3-9, 9-6 victory over Lauren Polonich.
Needing the final three matches, Princeton got two wins from Carly Grabowski (3-0 at No. 7) and Amanda Siebert (3-1 at No. 1), but Trinity's Nayelly Hernandez came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at No. 4. Siebert earned her win with 9-3 and 9-2 victories in the final two games, while Grabowski dropped only eight points in a 3-0 win.
The brackets for the 2008 Howe Cup championships, held at Jadwin Gym, will be set this week. Check back with GoPrincetonTigers.com for a full weekend preview.
