Fencing to Send 15 Competitors to NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional at Drew Saturday

PRINCETON -- Princeton fencing will send 15 competitors to the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional to be held at Drew University in Madison, N.J., Saturday to compete for berths in the NCAA national meet at Ohio State later in March.
The epeeists competing will be senior Tommi Hurme, sophomore Edward Hurme, freshman Graham Wicas, freshman Nathaniel Sulat, junior Jasjit Bhinder and sophomore Chandler Clay. Four foilists will compete, including sophomores Clayton Flanders and Karen Petsche and freshmen Peter Toshev and Mina Zargham. Princeton's sabre contingent includes sophomore Thomas Abend, freshman John Stogin, senior Cara DiGirolamo and freshmen Caroline Merz and Lyuba Docheva.
The Mid-Atlantic/South Region will qualify its top six or seven finishers, varying by weapon, toward the 24 spots for each weapon at the NCAA finals. Two more spots, beyond the region's allocation, will be awarded on a national at-large basis. The schools comprising the Mid-Atlantic/South Region include Drew, Duke, Fairleigh Dickinson (women's only), Haverford, Johns Hopkins, Lafayette (men's only) NJIT, North Carolina, Penn, Penn State, Princeton, Stevens Tech and Temple (women's only).
The NCAA championships will take place March 13-16 at Ohio State.
