PRINCETON -- The 19th-ranked Princeton men's hockey team scored three times in the first 10 minutes of the third period to erase a 1-0 deficit and defeat Brown 3-2 on Friday night at Hobey Baker Rink. Freshman Cam Ritchie had a goal and an assist in the win, which was Princeton's fourth come-from-behind win in the last nine games.
After a scoreless first period, Brown scored the game's first goal at 16:37 of the second period while skating with a two-man advantage. The goal came moments after Brown had killed off a Princeton two-man advantage for the full two minutes. During that penalty kill, the puck never left the Bear zone, but netminder Dan Rosen and his penalty killers held off the Tigers. That kill gave Brown some momentum and the Bears took advantage when Sean Hurley scored to put his team up 1-0.
The second period ended with Brown leading but the Tigers stormed into the third period, scoring three times in a seven minute span. The first goal came after Princeton won an offensive zone faceoff. The puck came to Ritchie up high who took a wrist shot through traffic that pinballed off a few shins before sliding past Rosen for Ritchie's third goal. Freshman Kevin Lohry and senior Keith Shattenkirk assisted on the goal.
Princeton took its first lead less than two minutes later when sophomore Mark Magnowski scored on the power play from down low. Magnowski's goal was his seventh of the year and set up by sophomores Jody Pederson and Dan Bartlett. The Tigers' final goal came at 9:59 mark of the period and proved to be the game winner. Ritchie chipped the puck up to junior Lee Jubinville in the Princeton zone and Jubinville skated the length of the ice before feeding junior Brett Wilson at the back post who one-timed the pass into the Brown net for his ninth goal.
Brown added a second goal from Ryan Garbutt at 14:26, but Princeton did not allow them to get any closer and the Tigers took the 3-2 win.
Sophomore goaltender Zane Kalemba made 26 saves for his 11th win as Princeton improved to 13-9-0 overall, 10-5-0 in ECAC Hockey and 6-0-0 in the Ivy League. Princeton has now won eight of its last nine games and moved into second place in the ECAC standings, leaping over Cornell, which lost at Clarkson. The Tigers complete the weekend tomorrow night against Yale at 7 p.m.
