Tigers Fall To No. 11 North Carolina, 7-0, In First Match Of Puerto Rico Trip

Princeton played tough in singles against a North Carolina team featuring three ranked players but ended up on the short end of a 7-0 decision against the 11th-ranked Tarheels Saturday in Puerto Rico.
Both Ivana King at No. 2 and Taylor Marable at No. 3 played three-set matches against ranked opponents. King won the first set against 26th-ranked Katrina Tsang but fell in a tough 10-8 tiebreak after Tsang came back to win the second set. Marable lost the first set against No. 100 Austin Smith but responded with a 6-3 second-set win before falling in a tiebreak.
King and doubles partner Sarah Huah also took their doubles match to a tiebreak at No. 2 against Smith and Sophie Grabinski but did not win the tiebreak.
In a matchup of two nationally-ranked players at the No. 1 singles spot, Princeton's Melissa Saiontz, ranked 75th, lost to 10th-ranked Sanaz Marand by scores of 6-3 and 6-4.
The Tigers (6-6) will play Illinois on Thursday as part of a spring break trip to Puerto Rico.
