Susannah Aboff Claims Shamrock Intercollegiate Crown, Tigers Take Second

FORT MILL, S.C. -- Junior Susannah Aboff outdueled Winthrop's Jutta Degerman to win the individual title at the Shamrock Intercollegiate Sunday while the Princeton women's golf team finished second overall by one shot.
Murray State won the team title, cutting its stroke total in each of the three rounds to overtake Princeton and previous leader Charleston Southern at the 14-team tournament hosted by Winthrop at Tega Cay Golf Club just south of Charlotte, N.C.
Aboff, who had the tournament's low round of 69 Saturday, carded a 74 Sunday to finish at +5. Degerman was the leader after round one when she turned in the tournament's next lowest round, a 71, while Aboff started her weekend by posting a 78. Degerman finished at +7. Sophomore Michelle Grilli took third at +14 (77-76-77) to help Princeton's runner-up finish. Junior Marlowe Boukis (82-78-82--242, T-19th) finished at +26 while freshman Kate Scarpetta (79-80-84--243, 22nd) was just behind at +27 and freshman Maggie Boberg (90-81-86--257, T-49th) finished at +41. Freshman Rachel Blum competed as an individual and tied for 42nd at +36 (87-81-84--252).
Princeton's team score finished ahead of Charleston Southern, Winthrop, Iowa, Xavier, Siena, South Carolina-Upstate, South Dakota State, Gardner-Webb, Presbyterian, St. Francis (Pa.), The Citadel and Tennessee State.
The team will compete again in a Georgetown-hosted tournament Mar. 31-Apr. 1.
