March 29, 2008 | Women's Rowing - Open
The sixth-ranked Princeton open crew began its 2008 season with an impressive sweep of No. 3 Brown and Michigan State on a windy morning at Lake Carnegie. The Tigers made their only win during the regatta count, as they edged Michigan State by .3 of a second to win the varsity eight showdown.
Princeton won the Brown/Princeton Trophy by winning the varsity eight in 7:13.4, while Michigan State finished second in 7:13.7. Brown placed third in 7:21.1. All three teams would claim at least one win on the day, including one varsity win apiece. Brown won the second varsity eight in 7:46.5, while Michigan State win the varsity four in 8:29.8. There was a strong headwind with gusts the whole day, and it was strongest for the first novice and second varsity events, according to row2k.com.
The Tigers, who have a mixed lineup of youth and experience, will look to continue its strong start next weekend, when it welcomes Rutgers and Columbia to a three-team regatta on Lake Carnegie.
