March 29, 2008 | Men's Tennis
The Princeton men's tennis team got its Ivy League season off to a rousing start Saturday afternoon in Philadelphia with a 5-2 victory over Penn at the Levy Tennis Pavilion.
The Tigers' No. 1 doubles team of George Carpeni and Alex Krueger-Wyman won the clinching doubles match for Princeton with an 8-6 victory over Penn's Jason Pinsky and Joseph Lok, and each player also earned a key singles win.
Carpeni was dominating in a win over Justin Fox at No. 3 singles, losing just one game in a straight-set win. Krueger-Wyman gained a service break in the first set against Jonathan Boym at No. 2 before closing out Boym 6-3 in the second set for another Princeton win.
Two singles matches went to three sets with the team match still up in the air, and the Tigers got a win in one of them when Peter Capkovic came back from a set down to beat Jason Pinsky 6-4 in the third in a matchup of two of the top players in the Ivy League.
Princeton also got a singles win from Charlie Brosens at No. 6. He beat Adam Schwartz in a tiebreak in the first set before closing out Schwartz 6-3 in the second set.
The second doubles win for the No. 71 Tigers was at No. 3, where senior Mark Gober and freshman Alex Faust beat Schwartz and Justen Roth 8-4.
