Men's Tennis Falls To Brown At Jadwin Gym, 4-3
April 04, 2008 | Men's Tennis
69th-ranked Princeton fell to Brown 4-3 in men's tennis Friday at Jadwin Gym as the Bears won three singles matches in straight sets and took advantage of a Princeton injury in another.
Princeton (9-6, 1-1 Ivy) clinched the doubles point when George Carpeni and Alex Krueger-Wyman broke in the final game at No. 1 for an 8-5 win, but Krueger-Wyman was forced to retire due to injury after the first set of his match at No. 2 singles against Brown's Jon Pearlman.
The Tigers evened the team match score at 2-2 after Ryan Kim polished off Brown's Noah Gardner 6-2 and 6-4 at No. 4 singles, but the Bears (8-11, 1-0 Ivy) closed out two matches quickly after that to clinch the match. At No. 3, George Carpeni nearly came back from a 5-2 second-set deficit but fell to Chris Lee 6-2 and 6-4. At No. 5, Charlie Brosens also had a second-set comeback fall short in a 6-4, 6-3 loss to Sam Garland.
Peter Capkovic won a 10-point tiebreak to defeat Brown's Saurabh Kohli at No. 1 after coming from behind to win the second set 6-2. The Princeton junior co-captain also helped Princeton clinch the doubles point, joining Alex Vuckovic to beat Garland and Noah Gardner 8-6 at No. 2 doubles.
The Tigers host Yale Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. The match will be held outside at the Lenz Tennis Center weather permitting or indoors at Jadwin Gym in case of inclement weather.
