Men's Tennis Drops 4-3 Decision To Yale
April 05, 2008 | Men's Tennis
Princeton was unable to recover from a close doubles loss and an injury at No. 1 singles in a 4-3 loss to Yale in a men's tennis match played at the Lenz Tennis Center Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers played well with an unusual lineup due to injury, but No. 1 player Peter Capkovic was forced to retire after the first set of his singles match against Jeff Dawson. Capkovic had joined Alex Vuckovic to give Princeton a win at No. 1 doubles, but Yale's No. 3 doubles team outlasted Princeton's Mark Gober and Alex Faust in a tiebreak to give the Bulldogs the doubles point.
Gober and Faust both stepped into the singles lineup and won matches. Faust's was a straight-set win over Tom Santoro at No. 5; Gober's was a come-from-behind three-set win over Jordan Abergel at No. 6.
At No. 2 singles, George Carpeni used a dominating final set to beat Yale's Mike Caldwell.
Princeton (9-7, 1-2 Ivy) plays at Dartmouth and Harvard.
