PRINCETON -- Princeton University director of public affairs Karen Jezierny, also an academic-athletic fellow for the women's soccer team, was honored Thursday night by the Princeton YWCA at its 25th-annual Tribute to Women 2008 Achievement Awards.
Most recently, Jezierny played a major role in planning the women's basketball "Think Pink" event Feb. 23. Princeton's contribution to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's national initiative included a halftime tribute to breast cancer survivors, opportunities for local organizations to give information on the fight against breast cancer and a silent auction that fundraised for those local organizations to continue their work.
The YWCA's award "recognizes outstanding women who live or work in the greater Princeton area and who have made significant contributions to their professions and communities."
Jezierny serves as liaison with state government in her role as the university's public affairs director and has served in several administrative capacities at Princeton over more than two decades. She has also held posts in New Jersey state government, including a stint as assistant state treasurer. Locally, Jezierny counts work with the Princeton Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Princeton Public Library Foundation and the Princeton YWCA/YMCA among her contributions.
Some of the Princeton representatives at the dinner included university president Dr. Shirley Tilghman, athletics director Gary Walters, head women's basketball coach Courtney Banghart and head women's soccer coach Julie Shackford.
