Tiger Foursome Wins College Two-Mile Relay At Penn Relays
April 26, 2008 | Women's Track and Field
Princeton won another championship Saturday at the Penn Relays as the women's two-mile (4X800) relay team took top honors in the college women's field, outpacing Duke by a half-second to post the best time among the 25 teams competing in the race.
The Tiger team of seniors Liz Bergold and Karen Aherne, freshman Libby Bliss and sophomore Liz Costello finished the two miles in 8:53.13, ahead of Duke's 8:53.68. That time was better than the final five teams that competed in the 11-team "Championship of America" 4X800 immediately preceding Princeton's race.
Costello earned her second championship of this year's Relays Saturday. She also paced the college women's championship 3,000-meter race on Thursday night with an eight-second victory.
The Princeton men also had an entry in the same race later in the day. The quartet of Jordan Hill, Jeff Carbonella, Mike Kowal and anchor leg Kurt Kuehne had the 11th-best time in the field (7:38.38) and the second-best time, by a quarter of a second, in their section.
Two field event standouts on the men's side also competed in "championship" divisions for Princeton Saturday. Alex Pessala had a best toss of 196 feet, five inches in the hammer throw, while Justin Frick had a clearance of 6 9 3/4 in the high jump.
