Women's Lightweights Place Fifth At IRA Championships
June 07, 2008 | Women's Rowing - Lightweight
The Princeton women's lightweight crew fell short in its goal of a national championship to cap its perfect regular season. The Tigers placed fifth in the grand final at the 2008 IRA national championship grand final on Cooper River in Camden, N.J.
After winning its semifinal heat Friday morning, Princeton entered the grand final hoping to bounce back after falling to Wisconsin at Eastern Sprints. The Badgers would not be beaten in this postseason race, though, as they regained the national championship with a win in 6:35.117. Georgetown rose to second place by finishing in 6:39.617, while Stanford finished third in 6:42.056. Defending champion Bucknell (6:43.693) held off Princeton, which finished fifth in 6:46.423. Radcliffe placed sixth in 6:51.801.
Princeton finishes its 2008 campaign with an 8-0 regular season record and a silver medal at the Eastern championships.
